So, how did we get involved? It kind of started when last year during the parade of homes when we came down to St. George. We didn't go to the Parade but since there was a parade home in Dixie Springs there was a lot of open houses to go into. Timo's parents were starting to think about getting a home near us and there was one real close so I thought I would check it out. I went in and I thought it would be perfect for them. I started talking to the builder and he seemed real nice. He told me he was originally from Kaysville. I asked what his parents name and he said,"Howard Cheney".. I started laughing because Timo and I have been doing business with him for years. I also told him that it was his dad that helped us find our St. George home. Small world!! So I went and told Timo to come and check out this home. He did and agreed it would be perfect for his parents. We started talking to the builder and he showed us many plans. He said he could email us some and so he did. We started going through them and found one we really liked. The house shifted from his parents to our new home. We struggled awhile trying to figure out what to do for sure since we love our St. George home. Our only complaints is that the sun beats down on the patio around 6:00 pm until sun down(but we had the most beautiful sunsets) and our upstairs gets hot in the summer. Other than that our house was perfect for our needs and wants. So, we thought maybe if we find a better location. This would be hard since we love Dixie Springs so much. Its so close to everything fun and yet its in the middle of no where. We also needed to find two lots together because the house was spread out. We found lots just around the corner from were we are. It has the most beautiful view of the Pine Valley mountains and the Zions. There are fun four wheeling trails behind us and nobody will be building behind us for years. So, the builders tracked down the owners and asked if they wanted to sell and they did. So, with the lots bought we started to figure out the house plans. We figured this is it and we wanted to design the perfect home so when our children grew up and were married we could still have a place all of us could go to. Also, when they wanted to go down with just their family they could and also if we wanted to bring friends down it would be very comfortable for everyone. That is why all the bedrooms have bathrooms. This architech was great. He could email us the changes and we also could have conference calls with the him, the builders and designer so everyone could have input on this house to make it amazing. Well, it became really amazing and talks about the Parade came up. Twenty five thousand people walking through our house was not that appealing (still isn't). They checked on it but the Parade was full. So we were ok with it and then a spot opened up. We thought we would try but we didn't get it. Then the builder said another opening came up and this time it made it. Its weird it always felt like a Parade home so I think it was meant to be for whatever reason.
In June the builder brought in a lot of fill dirt and packed it down but the actual construction didn't get started until September. Wow, it is amazing what they got done in six months. Because of the parade the builder had a deadline because you are fined big time if its not done but he did a great job of managing everything. The parade is also nice because the workers do their best jobs because they like the advertising. Also, you say parade and they say I will give it to you for a discount. Got to love that!!
Well its been a very busy six months. Kind of stressful with Timo gone so much but in reality it has been really fun. The decorators had us figure things out before October because they go to "Market" back east and thats were they find most of their furniture and also there is a waiting period and so it all needed to be decided. We wanted a spanish/southwestern feel to the home. We wanted it completely different from our house because we wanted it to feel like we have really left and went on vacation. I haven't been able to come down that much so everytime I come more and more is done and I am absolutely blow away with it. So I came down on Sunday and I walked in with 70% of the decorating done and all I can say is WOW!!! it was way nicer than I could have imagined. I love it so much. I am excited to hear the comments but I only want to hear the positive ones and not the negative ones. Ohwell, who cares!!! I love my Parade of Home.
